Planted sunflower seeds in our garden which grew up to be lovely tall plants... sunny bright cheerful sunflowers. Sunflowers are also a mathematical marvel. The pattern of seeds within a sunflower follows the Fibonacci sequence, or 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, ... Each number in the sequence is the sum of the previous two numbers. It is somehow tied in to the golden ratio as well. That is so smart! Hypnotic. You do not see the extent of the spirals here, but the bees that come regularly are not concerned because they have a tasty lunch anyway. Enjoy this sunny flower image.
