Description
Talking a walk along the Susquehanna River on the western shore in Forty Fort, Pennsylvania, looking north towards Exeter, like many Americana-style towns I’ve often enjoyed strolling along the paths or along the dike built to prevent flooding in that peaceful natural setting, near the well-known mountains of the Poconos. Many know of the Agnes flood decades ago. History abounds all around as well.
(Wikipedia) the Wyoming Valley are framed by the Pocono Mountains to the east, the Endless Mountains to the west, and the Lehigh Valley to the south. The Susquehanna River flows through the center of the valley ... The area grew rapidly in the 19th century after the discovery of nearby coal reserves and the arrival of hundreds of thousands of immigrants to work as miners. The coal fueled industrialization in the area, which reached the height of its prosperity in the first half of the 20th century.
